1. Stay safe first
Don't climb on a wet or damaged roof. Stay clear of downed lines and call Duke Energy or your co-op. If a tree is on the house, keep everyone out of the rooms beneath it.
2. Document the damage
Take photos and video from the ground and inside before anything is moved: missing shingles, debris, ceiling stains, wet insulation. Note the date and time of the storm. These photos often matter more than anything else in a claim.
3. Stop more water getting in
Most policies expect you to prevent further damage. Put buckets under drips, move belongings, and get the roof tarped. Keep receipts — emergency tarping is often part of a covered claim. Call 864-982-2936; our storm line is answered after hours.
4. Get an honest inspection
We get on the roof, photograph what we find and tell you plainly whether it looks like storm damage worth a claim. Not every storm causes damage worth claiming, and filing for wear and tear can work against you.
- Hail: bruised or cracked shingles, dented vents and gutters
- Wind: creased, lifted or missing shingles, exposed nail lines
- Trees: punctured decking, broken rafters, gutter damage
5. Watch for storm chasers
After big storms, out-of-state crews knock on doors. Be cautious of anyone who asks you to sign on the spot, wants full payment up front, or offers to waive your deductible. Check any roofer's South Carolina license at verify.llronline.com.
